The title of the novel is supposed to be the temperature at which book paper catches fire and burns, but according to Gregory Fike on the MadSci Network the ignition temperature for paper is 450 degrees Centigrade (842 degrees Fahrenheit). The flash point of paper is estimated to be 350 degrees Centigrade (662 degrees Fahrenheit). He used The Handbook of Physical and Mechanical Testing of Paper and Paperboard, Volume 2, edited by Richard Mark, as his source of information.
